Yawning Portal Release New Single, Walking On Water

UK-based electronica duo Yawning Portal have just dropped their latest single, Walking on Water. The track serves as a beacon of hope amidst dark times, with the duo remarking that it was “written about a yearning for meaning in times of collapse; whether that be through friendship, love and kinship, faith, conspiracy…”

Walking on Water is akin to a lullaby – Delicately permeating the space between lucidity and dreaming. Ambient, lo-fi bass underpins the steady swirl of glistening synths while precious bubblegum vocals chime as clear as bells. The song crescendos in a visceral drench of digital distortion before slowly disappearing into the ether once more.

The track is accompanied by a stripped-back Candlelight Mix and was released courtesy of the research and development platform, odyXxey. odyXxey is a multidisciplinary art platform with a design-led approach and burgeoning events programs in London, New York, and Berlin. Its subversive mix series, odyXxey radio, has quickly become known for uplifting underground scenes worldwide by spotlighting both established and emerging artists within the creative milieu.

This is the first self-released single from Yawning Portal since their 2020 debut EP, Heart & Earth, on PLZ Make It Ruins. In 2021, they composed the soundtrack for Notice the Direction of Fires, for artist Lydia Ourahmane’s exhibition Survival in the Afterlife. In 2022, the duo collaborated on the soundtrack for Lydia’s film Tassili. The film has been presented at several international art museums, and Yawning Portal performed a live version of the score for the opening at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.
